Due to holiday travel (and a little turkey-induced laziness), Block by Block takes a break this week. Instead, I’ll offer the framework of another series I’m tentatively naming ‘Around Town,’ which will be capturing events and happenings I find or seek out.

Back on October 23rd, I was shortcutting through Washington Square Park when I ran into a candlelight vigil for Liam Payne, the former member of 2010’s pop sensation One Direction who unexpectedly passed away the week prior. While I was conditioned to thumb my boyish nose at boyband mania, their musical and cultural capture hummed along in the background of my adolescence, so it felt poignant. Perhaps it might be for some of you here too?
